Assurity's orgins date back to 1890 when Dr. A.O. Faulkner saw a need to make accident coverage available to working people - not just the wealthy. Dr. Faulkner's medical practice made him an unwilling spectator to families' financial catastrophes that inevitably followed a tragic illness or accident. The original company, Modern Woodman Accident Association, began in a one-room office in York, Nebraska, but moved to the Capital city of Lincoln a few months later, where it has been located ever since. Over the next century, the Woodmen company expanded and products, never losing sight of the promise to provide help to people and families during difficult times. Three separate Woodmen companies were merged to create Woodmen Accident Life Company in 1954.

In 1997, the Assurity Life Insurance Company was formed as a subsidiary of Woodmen Accident and Life, and in 2000, the two companies were united with the century-old Lincoln Direct Life Insurance Company, comprising the Lincoln Insurance Group. The union resulted in assets exceeding $1 billion and the shared traditions of integrity, financial accountability and service to policyholders. On October 1, 2003, Woodmen and Assurity were combined into one operating company retaining the Assurity name.

Hot Products: Assurity specializes in Disability Income insurance and will write both blue and white collar employees. They also have a worksite marketing division that offers simplified issue life insurance to small groups.
