Fidelity Life was founded in 1896 as the Mystic Workers of the World, a fraternal benefit society that offered more reasonable insurance alternatives to workers in the Midwest and Northern states than those provided by traditional old line Eastern companies. As middle America grew, so did they. By 1908, membership had passed the 50,000 mark. In 1915 the organization had $100 million of life insurance in force. The Patriot Fund was established in 1917 to cover claims resulting from World War I, and all new business began to be issued on a legal reserve basis. In 1930, they changed their name to Fidelity Life Association. Today's Fidelity Life operates as a mutual legal reserve company that offers life insurance annuity products.
